Guided Self-Change for Substance Use Concerns

  • Alcohol
  • Tobacco
  • Opioids

Are you thinking about changing your drinking? Maybe you want to quit smoking, but continue to struggle? Are you in an MOUD (Suboxone) program and need additional support?

The Guide Self-Change (GSC) model is an evidence-based cognitive-behavioral approach to treating substance use disorders that emphasizes client autonomy and personal responsibility. Integrating Motivational Interviewing with cognitive-behavioral strategies, this brief, structured intervention (typically an assessment and 4 sessions) helps individuals identify intrinsic motivations for change, set personalized goals, and develop practical skills for behavior modification. The model has shown effectiveness, accommodating harm reduction alongside abstinence goals, and providing concrete tools for managing high-risk situations while addressing cognitive, emotional, and environmental factors that contribute to problematic behaviors.

Contextual Trauma Therapy

  • Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Depression
  • Anxiety

Whether you are experiencing PTSD, depression, anxiety, or other difficulties from traumatic experiences in your past, you may benefit form Contextual Trauma Therapy.

Contextual Trauma Therapy is an integrative therapeutic approach that emphasizes the importance of understanding trauma within the broader context of an individual’s life experiences, relationships, and sociocultural environment. Rather than viewing trauma as isolated incidents, this approach recognizes how traumatic experiences are embedded within complex personal narratives and systems. I work with clients to explore how past adverse experiences continue to influence present functioning while acknowledging the adaptive nature of trauma responses within their original contexts. This framework incorporates elements from various modalities including cognitive-behavioral, somatic, attachment, and narrative therapies, creating a holistic treatment model that addresses the biological, psychological, social, and cultural dimensions of trauma. By helping clients develop a coherent understanding of their experiences within these broader contexts, this approach aims to foster resilience, meaning-making, and post-traumatic growth while reducing symptoms and improving overall quality of life.

Affirming Care

I believe that providing affirming care to clients requires a dual commitment to both respectful treatment and appropriate therepeutic interventions. Central to my approach is the recognition of each individual’s autonomy and inherent dignity as a person. This means creating a therapeutic environment where individuals feel seen, heard, and validated in their identities, while simultaneously offering evidence-based interventions that align with their healthcare needs and personal goals. I am committed to ongoing education about the unique health concerns facing the LGBTQIA+ community and to advocating for healthcare systems that remove barriers to care. By centering respect and autonomy in every interaction, I strive to foster therapeutic relationships where clients can make informed decisions about their health in an environment free from judgment or discrimination.
